Dr. Trevor Smith is an independent Management Consultant with extensive international experience working with business management systems, assessments, standards, and work process integration. The scope of his work has included private, public, and not-for-profit organizations.
Currently Trevor is a Professor in the Business Faculty of Humber College Toronto, Canada, in degree and postgraduate programs.
A key interest in Trevor’s career has been the role of a systematic approach to business management in terms of quality and strategic planning. Clients over the years have included international airport authorities, local government, training institutions, manufacturing companies and a small business internet start-up. In addition to his current teaching role at Humber College, Trevor has been adjunct professor at the University of Guelph in Quality Management (Food Science) and a professor at George Brown College, Toronto, in fashion management.
He has over 32 years of corporate experience in international business with the Eastman Kodak Company in professional and managerial roles in manufacturing, quality, organizational supply chain and service business sectors. Experience gained included working with cross cultural/cross discipline teams to arrive at consensus positions for standards and subsequent training delivery. From 2002 to 2008 he served as International Chair of the ISO Technical Committee for Quality Management and Quality Assurance (the committee responsible for ISO 9000 and related standards, including automotive, healthcare and government sectors). In this context, he served with the ISO World Council for Quality. Among other responsibilities within ISO, Trevor was a member of an ISO strategic user group investigating the future of management system standardization and the establishment of an International Standard on Social Responsibility. This has led to opportunities to volunteer in developing countries. Within Canada, Trevor chaired a Canadian National Advisory Panel on standards (for Standards Council of Canada) and served on a NSERC panel responsible for the allocation of government funds to university research. He is a past board member for Humber River Hospital in northwest Toronto and is a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC, UK) and a senior member of the American Society for Quality (ASQ).
